fine garden design
You already know the difference between a landscape that was installed and one that was designed. You've felt it. At someone's home, in a garden abroad, in the way certain places make you slow down without knowing why.
I'm Clare Horne. I design that feeling.
The Grass Girl is my studio. An art practice accepting a small number of garden and land commissions each year.
Commissions
Garden Commissions
For defined garden spaces. Entries, courtyards, pool gardens, privacy plantings, the gardens that shape how a home is lived in day to day.
Whole Property Commissions
For new builds, full residential landscapes, and existing homes where the entire exterior needs a cohesive design vision. Arrival, privacy, outdoor living, planting, circulation, and seasonal structure, resolved together.
Land Portraiture Commissions
For acreage, farms, and estates where the design has to read the whole land and the lives within it before it can shape any part of it.
Every commission is available from first drawing through finished installation, with me on the ground.
Garden Consultations
On-Site Garden Consultation
A single on-site visit for honest advice, diagnosis, and direction, with written field notes. The smallest way to work with me, and often the first.
It began with a garden. And a name spoken from memory.
The Grass Girl isn't just a studio. It's a story of devotion, of turning land into something that speaks.
